Introduction

Hello! My name is Robin, I made this website for my art history class. Below will be my journal entries.

Blog Week 1
"Ignorance = Fear" By Keith Haring, 1989

Ignorance = Fear by Keith Haring

1. LOOK/DESCRIBE - Above the drawing itself is handwritten writing reading "IGNORANCE = FEAR". Below is three yellow figures with thicker black outlines with pink Xs in their torso area. There are black lines surrounding them to (assumably) add movement. At the very bottom there is more handwritten writing, reading "SILENCE = DEATH" besides that is a pink triangle and then "FIGHT AIDS, ACT UP" in smaller text.

2. THINK - I believe the meaning of this piece is to make a statement. It is very straight forward in it's meaning, to me, at least. This is a direct messsage about the AIDS crisis and how people who are ignorant are fearful, and people who are silent in whatever they believe in lead to death of others.

3. CONNECT - I can connect this to a lot of things, honestly, but I think in our society right now a lot of us turn to silence out of politeness, or prefer not to look at the news because we are afraid. But it is so incredibly important to stay informed and speak out against hatred and issues that you believe in. I think this goes to show why art history is so important, because pieces like this are still relevant today.

"Green Wheat Fields, Auvers" By Vincent Van Gogh, 1890

Green Wheat Fields, Auver by Vincent Van Gogh

1. LOOK/DESCRIBE - The painting has a very round and lively movement to it through the brush strokes. It captures very bright colors, which also add to it's liveliness. It has a pale blue sky with clouds running through it, and, as the title suggests, a green wheat field, along about 3/4ths of the piece horizontal under the sky. Next to it on the right is a path of some sort.

2. THINK - I think the meaning behind this was honestly to try and capture what this scene feels like more than anything. It feels very bright and alive (if I haven't said that enough) and almosts dream-like.

3. CONNECT - This piece reminds me a lot of childhood. I think this is captured by a lense of someone who understands what it feels like to enjoy nature at it's fullest.

"The Kiss" By Gustav Klimt, 1907-8

The Kiss by Gustav Klimt

1. LOOK/DESCRIBE - It's a painting of two lovers, clothed in yellow with various shapes along the fabric. The shapes are seperated between each of them, one having more rectangular black and white shapes and the other having more circular colorful shapes, similar to the flowers beneath them. They're kneeling on what appears to be a flower field, with a golden background.

2. THINK - I think this painting represents the warm feeling between lovers and the eurphoric feelings along with it. I think the fabric being one, yet different at the same time represents the unity between them.

3. CONNECT - I can relate to this in the sense that I truly do think there is a sense of loss of distinct self while remaining individual while in love. I agree with the color choice throughout this piece as well, I think love being more yellow or golden feels right because I personally find it very warm.
